Are you an educator looking for innovative ways to make learning more interactive and enjoyable? Meet the Battleboats Game for Edutech, a brand-new Google Sheets extension that turns traditional worksheets into an exciting game of strategy and knowledge. Inspired by the classic Battleship game, this tool is designed to help students learn while having fun, making it an ideal addition to any classroom.
What is the Battleboats Game?
The Battleboats Game for Edutech is a Google Sheets extension that allows educators to create a dynamic, one-player worksheet in the form of a classic battleship game. The educator designs a 9×9 grid with 81 questions and their corresponding answers. The grid is then transformed into a battle grid and an answer grid with one click, where students must navigate through questions to find and sink five hidden boats.
How Does It Work?
The game board consists of two grids:
- The Battle Grid: This grid shows the results of each attempt, indicating whether the student’s answer is correct and whether it hit a boat or not.
- The Answer Grid: This grid is where students input their answers after selecting a coordinate.
The goal is to find and sink all five boats hidden within the grid. The boats include:
- Carrier: Occupies 5 squares.
- Battleship: Occupies 4 squares.
- Destroyer: Occupies 3 squares.
- Submarine: Occupies 3 squares.
- Patrol Boat: Occupies 2 squares.
Steps to Play
- Select a Coordinate: The student begins by selecting a coordinate on the 9×9 grid. The columns are labeled with letters (A-I), and the rows are numbered (1-9).
- Answer the Question: After selecting a coordinate, a question appears above the answer grid. The student must input their answer in the corresponding cell on the answer grid.
- If the answer is wrong, a “W” appears on the battle grid, indicating a miss, and the student must try again.
- If the answer is correct, a “C” appears for clear waters (no boat), or an “H” appears for a hit (boat found).
- Repeat the Process: The student continues selecting coordinates and answering questions until all the boats are found and sunk.
